Rahul Gandhi calls ‘vote chori’ direct attack on Constitution, accuses BJP, RSS and EC of treason

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday accused the BJP, RSS and Election Commission of being responsible for what he described as “vote chori”, calling it a direct attack on the Constitution and alleging that those involved had committed an act of treason.

The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said justice would be served, reiterating his earlier criticism of the Election Commission over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Gandhi’s remarks came after an Indian Express investigation reported that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had raised formal objections at least 14 times over the past 10 months to decisions and orders related to the SIR that they said were taken without their knowledge. The report said the objections covered issues including voter additions and deletions, access to electoral-roll databases and the handling of appeals.

Gandhi said on X that “vote chori” was a crime against the Indian people and a direct attack on the Constitution. He also shared an earlier video in which he had warned Election Commission officials that their actions amounted to treason.

The Election Commission, however, has rejected reports of an internal rift, maintaining that decisions, including those concerning the SIR, were taken unanimously.
