PM Modi pays tribute to Syama Prasad Mookerjee on 125th Birth Anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee on the occasion of his 125th birth anniversary, saying that his vision of national unity, selfless service, and nation-building continues to guide India’s development journey.

In his message, PM Modi described Mookerjee as one of India’s most influential thinkers and leaders, whose life was marked by scholarship, courage, and an unwavering commitment to public service. He said Mookerjee dedicated himself to strengthening India’s unity, dignity, and progress, and remains an enduring inspiration for the country’s aspirations.

The Prime Minister highlighted that Syama Prasad Mookerjee was not only a political leader but also an educationist and institution-builder who contributed significantly to shaping India’s intellectual and administrative framework. He added that Mookerjee’s ideas on national integration and self-reliance continue to hold relevance in modern India’s growth path.

PM Modi also recalled Mookerjee’s role in promoting industrial development and strengthening India’s economic foundations during his tenure as the country’s first Minister for Industry and Supply. He said his efforts reflected a forward-looking vision that balanced industrial growth with support for traditional sectors, artisans, and cottage industries.

Referring to Mookerjee’s humanitarian work during the Bengal famine, the Prime Minister said it reflected his deep compassion for people in distress and his commitment to public welfare. He added that such values make Mookerjee a timeless source of inspiration.

Concluding his tribute, PM Modi said that as India moves towards its goal of becoming a developed nation, Mookerjee’s ideals of unity, integrity, and national service continue to light the path forward.

The day is being observed across the country with several commemorative programmes, including events under the ongoing two-year national celebration marking his 125th birth anniversary.
