PM Modi condoles deaths of Indian tourists in Vietnam boat tragedy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep grief over the deaths of Indian tourists in a tragic boat accident near Phu Quoc Island in southern Vietnam and assured that the Indian government is extending all possible assistance to those affected.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said he was "extremely saddened" by the tragedy involving Indian nationals."Extremely saddened to learn about the tragic news of a boat accident involving Indian nationals near Phu Quoc, Vietnam. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon," Modi said.

He added that the Indian Embassy and Consulate in Vietnam are providing all possible assistance to the victims and their families and are in constant touch with Vietnamese authorities.

According to reports, at least 15 Indian tourists were killed after a speedboat carrying 32 Indian tourists and four crew members capsized near Phu Quoc Island during an island-hopping excursion. Rescue teams, assisted by nearby boats, border guards, the navy and the coast guard, saved 21 people, while search and investigation operations are continuing.

The victims were part of a group of employees from a private mobile phone company who had travelled to Vietnam for an annual meeting, officials said. Vietnamese authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, with rough sea conditions and strong winds suspected to have contributed to the tragedy.
