PM Modi Calls For Peaceful Resolution Of Ukraine And West Asia Conflicts In Norway Talks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for resolving ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia through dialogue and diplomacy, stating that military action alone cannot bring lasting peace.
Speaking after wide-ranging bilateral talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in Oslo, Modi said India and Norway share a common belief in a rules-based global order where dialogue and negotiation remain central to conflict resolution.
“Be it Ukraine or West Asia, we will continue to support every effort for the early end of the conflict and for peace,” he said in a televised address following the meeting.
Modi emphasised that global challenges require stronger international cooperation and reforms in global institutions, adding that existing structures must evolve to address emerging geopolitical realities.
He also reiterated India’s commitment to eradicating terrorism in all forms, thanking Norway for its support following last year’s Pahalgam terror attack. According to the Prime Minister, Norway’s solidarity during that period reflected strong bilateral trust and friendship.
The Prime Minister noted that both countries support strengthening a rules-based international order and stressed that reforming global governance systems is essential in today’s complex world.
Modi also welcomed Norway’s participation in the India-led Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative, saying the partnership would deepen cooperation in maritime security, marine economy, and capacity building between the two maritime nations.
He added that India and Norway will work together more closely in trade, investment, and energy, with growing opportunities in green development and sustainable growth.
The visit marks an important step in strengthening India-Norway relations as part of India’s broader outreach to Nordic countries.
