Maharashtra: 12 Killed, 20+ injured in truck collision with wedding party vehicle

At least 12 people were killed and over 20 others injured in a tragic road accident in Maharashtra’s Palghar district after a container truck collided with a vehicle carrying a wedding party.
The accident took place around 4 am on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway near the Kasa area, when a speeding container truck rammed into a smaller truck transporting more than 40 wedding guests. The impact of the collision was so severe that both vehicles overturned and were heavily damaged.
According to police officials, several passengers were trapped inside the mangled vehicle following the crash. Locals, police teams, and rescue workers rushed to the spot and carried out relief operations.
Around 25 injured passengers with serious injuries were immediately shifted to Kasa sub-district hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that the death toll stands at 12, while the condition of several injured victims remains critical.
Preliminary investigation suggests that overspeeding and negligence may have led to the fatal collision. A detailed inquiry has been initiated, and police are conducting a spot inspection to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Traffic movement on the busy Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway was disrupted for several hours following the incident before being gradually restored.
Officials have expressed concern over rising highway accidents and reiterated the need for stricter road safety enforcement measures.
