PM Modi, Donald Trump likely to meet on June 16–17 at G7 Summit in France

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former US President Donald Trump are likely to hold a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France on June 16–17, 2026, according to sources.
Both leaders are expected to attend the summit in Evian, France, which creates the possibility of a face-to-face interaction. However, officials said the meeting has not yet been confirmed and will depend on the finalisation of their respective schedules during the high-level diplomatic event.
The potential meeting comes as Prime Minister Modi embarks on a six-day foreign tour covering France and Slovakia from June 13 to June 18. During the visit, he will first travel to Nice, France, for bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron.
India and France are expected to review their strategic partnership during the discussions, which include cooperation in defence, technology, trade, and innovation. Modi and Macron will also jointly inaugurate the “Bharat Innovates” initiative, aimed at bringing together startups and investors from both countries.
After his engagements in France, the Prime Minister will travel to Slovakia for a state visit from June 14 to 16 at the invitation of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. The visit marks the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia since its independence in 1993.
Following this, PM Modi will return to France to participate in the G7 Summit on June 16–17. He is expected to engage with leaders of G7 nations, partner countries, and international organisations on global issues such as economic growth, artificial intelligence, and sustainable development.
On the sidelines of the summit, several bilateral meetings are also expected, with the potential Modi–Trump interaction being one of the most closely watched diplomatic engagements.
If confirmed, the meeting would mark a significant moment in India–US relations, particularly as global leaders gather to discuss key geopolitical and economic challenges.
