People are voting fearlessly in West Bengal this time: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that voters in West Bengal are casting their ballots in a “fearless atmosphere,” something he claimed was difficult to imagine in the state over the past several decades.
Addressing a public gathering in Hardoi after inaugurating the Ganga Expressway, the Prime Minister referred to the ongoing second phase of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, where polling is underway in 142 constituencies.
He said reports from the state indicate a strong voter turnout, with long queues visible at polling stations since morning. According to him, the enthusiastic participation of voters reflects growing awareness and confidence in exercising democratic rights.
“What we are witnessing in Bengal today is unprecedented. A fearless environment where people are voting without fear,” PM Modi said, adding that this represents the strength of India’s Constitution and democratic system.
The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to the people of West Bengal for participating in large numbers, calling it a positive sign for democracy. He urged voters to continue participating in the electoral process with the same enthusiasm throughout the day.
Referring to recent political developments, Modi said the BJP and NDA had secured a strong mandate in Bihar and performed well in Gujarat local body elections, claiming it reflected growing public support.
He added that the final results of ongoing elections, scheduled to be declared on May 4, would further strengthen the vision of a developed India and accelerate the country’s growth trajectory.
The West Bengal Assembly elections are being held in multiple phases, with the first phase completed on April 23. Counting of votes across West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam, and Puducherry will take place on May 4.
