3 hospitalised after chemical spill from tanker in Maharashtra's Palghar

Three people were hospitalized after an exposure to a hazardous chemical that spilled on the road from a moving tanker in Palghar district of Maharashtra on Thursday morning, police said.

The incident took place at Khupri village in Wada taluka and the affected individuals are stated to be out of danger, they said.

According to Assistant Police Inspector (API) Nagesh Kadam, in-charge of the Wada police station, a chemical tanker emerged from a nearby company onto the main road. As the vehicle negotiated bumps along the road, a portion of the chemical spilled onto the thoroughfare, leading to local exposure.

Three individuals, who complained of suffocation, respiratory discomfort, and eye irritation following the exposure, were quickly rushed to a local hospital, he said.

Kadam said the trio received prompt medical treatment and are currently stable and out of danger.

On being alerted about the incident, local police alongside rescue and relief teams immediately rushed to the scene.

The API explained that emergency responders sprayed mud over the spilled substance to neutralize the chemical hazard, while the tanker was safely pulled to the side of the road to clear traffic.

Officials from the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) visited the site to evaluate the extent of the leakage and determine necessary corrective measures, informed Kadam.

Police are conducting a further probe into the incident to assess potential negligence.
