Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi warns Pakistan over support to terrorism

Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi issued a stern warning to Pakistan saying Islamabad must decide “whether they want to be part of geography or history” if it continues to support terrorism against India.

Speaking during an interactive session at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi, the Army Chief was asked how the Indian Army would respond if circumstances similar to those leading to Operation Sindoor arise again.

Responding to the question, General Dwivedi said Pakistan would have to reconsider its actions if it continued to harbour terrorists and operate against India.

“If Pakistan continues to harbour terrorists and operate against India, then they have to decide whether they want to be part of geography or history or not,” he said.

The remarks came days after India marked the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 last year.

Under the operation, Indian armed forces carried out precision strikes on terror launchpads and infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The military confrontation between the two countries lasted nearly 88 hours before both sides reached a ceasefire understanding on May 10.

General Dwivedi’s statement also comes amid recent remarks from Pakistan expressing willingness to resume dialogue with India.

Pakistan’s foreign office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi recently welcomed comments by former Indian Army chief MM Naravane and RSS leader Dattatreya Hosabale advocating that channels for dialogue between the two countries should remain open.

However, India has consistently maintained that terrorism and talks cannot go together.
