Odisha announces free education from KG to Post-Graduation in Government schools and colleges

In a landmark move aimed at expanding access to education, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday announced free education from kindergarten to postgraduate levels in all government schools and colleges across the state.
The announcement was made during a press conference marking two years of the BJP government in Odisha. The chief minister said the initiative is designed to make education truly universal and affordable, particularly benefiting students from economically weaker sections and girls.
Majhi described the decision as a pioneering step in the education sector, stating that Odisha could become the first state in the country to offer completely free education from KG to PG in government educational institutions.
According to the chief minister, the policy aims to remove financial barriers to learning and ensure that every student has access to quality education regardless of their economic background.
The government believes the initiative will strengthen the educational foundation of the state's youth, enhance opportunities for higher studies and contribute to Odisha’s long-term social and economic development.
The announcement is expected to provide significant relief to thousands of families and further boost enrolment and retention rates across schools and colleges in the state.
