Namo Bharat staff rescue child, reunite family
Alert staff at the Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat station helped reunite a young child with his family after becoming suspicious of a woman accompanying the child, prompting intervention by security personnel and the police, the NCRTC said on Thursday.
According to a statement issued by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), the incident came to light when station staff noticed a woman carrying a crying child who appeared distressed.
A female staff member questioned the woman about her relationship with the child.
The woman claimed that the child was her son, but the child denied knowing her, following which the matter was immediately reported to the Station Controller.
The Station Controller alerted personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) deployed at the station and informed the Delhi Police, it stated.
The child’s parents were also contacted, and both the woman and the child were handed over to the police for further investigation, the statement said.
NCRTC Managing Director Shalabh Goel appreciated the station staff for their vigilance and prompt response, saying their alertness helped avert a possible untoward incident.
The corporation said this was not the first such case. In September last year, real-time CCTV monitoring at Anand Vihar Namo Bharat station helped identify three minor girls travelling with four adult men.
The matter was reported to the CISF and Delhi Police, who confirmed that the girls had been reported missing from Deoria district in Uttar Pradesh.
They were subsequently rescued and handed over to the authorities, it read.
According to the NCRTC, passenger safety is supported through CCTV surveillance across stations and trains, live monitoring from Station Control Rooms and the Security Control Centre at the Duhai Depot in Ghaziabad, besides deployment of train attendants and security personnel.
The Delhi section of the corridor is secured by the CISF, while the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force (UPSSF) is responsible for security in Uttar Pradesh.
The corporation also conducts regular mock drills and training exercises for station staff to strengthen emergency response, the statement added.
