LG visits Aerocity, reviews infrastructure works

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu visited Aerocity, where GMR officials gave him a detailed presentation on ongoing infrastructure development works in the area.

On the occasion, the LG directed that green infrastructure and sustainability principles remain at the core of all future planning, and emphasised the need for close coordination between DDA and GMR, given Aerocity’s strategic proximity to Dwarka.

The visit formed part of the LG’s ongoing engagement with key growth nodes in the capital, aimed at reviewing on-the-ground progress and aligning private infrastructure development with the city’s broader urban planning priorities.

During the visit, Sandhu held detailed discussions on sustainable urban planning for Aerocity, reviewing how upcoming infrastructure works are being designed to support long-term planned growth. Discussions covered the robustness of water conservation and flood management systems being put in place, with a focus on ensuring the area remains resilient to waterlogging and flooding during the monsoon season.

The LG also reviewed measures being undertaken for efficient traffic management in and around Aerocity, which witnesses significant vehicular movement owing to its proximity to the airport and its emergence as a major commercial and hospitality hub. Plans for seamless last-mile Metro connectivity were discussed, which the LG noted was essential to easing congestion and improving accessibility for commuters and visitors.

Sandhu emphasised the need for close coordination between DDA and GMR, given Aerocity’s proximity to Dwarka, which he described as a key growth corridor for Delhi’s future.

The LG’s emphasis on flood management and water conservation at Aerocity is particularly relevant given the waterlogging that affected large parts of Delhi on July 28, when heavy monsoon rainfall submerged markets, residential colonies, and arterial roads across the city.
