Mumbai remains on red alert as heavy rains flood Lokmanya Tilak terminus, disrupt normal life

Mumbai continued to face severe monsoon conditions on Sunday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) kept the city under a red alert due to persistent heavy rainfall. Several parts of the city witnessed widespread waterlogging, with the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) in Kurla among the worst-affected areas after rainwater entered the railway premises, disrupting passenger movement.

Authorities have also warned of a 4.19-metre high tide, increasing the risk of flooding in low-lying areas. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has urged residents to remain indoors unless travel is absolutely necessary.

Heavy rainfall over the past few days has led to traffic congestion, disruptions in public transport, and water accumulation across several roads and railway stations. Emergency teams have been deployed to clear waterlogged areas and monitor vulnerable locations.

According to weather officials, Mumbai has already received nearly 80% of its average July rainfall within the first few days of the month. The IMD has forecast more intense showers over the next two days, prompting authorities to remain on high alert and advise citizens to follow official weather updates.
