Mumbai deploys over 16,800 police personnel for Ganesh festival

Mumbai, Sep 13 (PTI) More than 16,800 police personnel, including senior officers and quick response units, have been deployed across Mumbai to ensure safe and peaceful celebrations during the 10-day Ganesh festival, an official said on Sunday.
The massive security grid, comprising seven additional commissioners, 37 deputy commissioners, 52 assistant commissioners and 2,650 officers, will maintain strict vigil across key Ganesh pandals and public places throughout the metropolis, the official said.
In addition to the regular force, platoons of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), Quick Response Teams (QRT), Riot Control Teams, and Home Guards will be deployed at key locations for the festival, which begins on September 14 and culminates on September 25.
Special arrangements have also been planned for idol immersion days, with additional security personnel being assigned to manage crowds and traffic, he said.
The police have urged citizens to exercise restraint at crowded places and extend full cooperation to security personnel on duty.
Authorities have advised the public to report any unattended or suspicious objects, and fr immediate police assistance, dial the emergency helpline numbers 100 or 112.
