Man kills wife by hitting her with battery, dies by suicide in Ranhola

A 28-year-old man allegedly murdered his wife by repeatedly striking her on the head with a battery before dying by suicide after consuming poison in Delhi’s Ranhola area, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place on July 2 in Tilangpur Kotla village, where the couple had been living as tenants for the past six or seven months. According to police, officers reached the spot after receiving information about an attempted murder.

Inside a rented ground-floor room, officers found Nisha, 23, with severe head injuries. She was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital (SGMH), where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Police said the accused, Vinay, 28, allegedly attacked his wife with an Exide battery after suspecting her of talking to someone on the phone. Following the assault, he allegedly consumed Sulphas (aluminium phosphide) tablets.

Investigators said Vinay then took the couple’s three-year-old daughter to his mother’s rented accommodation in nearby Kotla Vihar Phase-I, around 150 metres away. There, he allegedly told his sister, Priya, that he had killed Nisha around 6 pm because she had been speaking to someone on the phone and that he had also consumed poison. Priya rushed to the couple’s rented room and found Nisha lying in a pool of blood. She ran out in panic, and neighbours then alerted the police.

Vinay was also taken to SGMH but was declared dead on arrival. Police said the couple had been married for about four to five years and had a daughter aged about three.

Vinay worked in a private job in the Uttam Nagar area. Post-mortem examinations of both deceased individuals have been conducted, and the bodies have been handed over to their family members for the last rites.

Police have registered an FIR under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Ranhola police station. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and the motive behind the crime.
