LG Sandhu hoists Tricolour at Lok Niwas on 80th Independence Day

Lieutenant Governor Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu hoisted the National Flag at Lok Niwas on the 80th Independence Day, with freedom fighters, their families, RWA representatives, youth icons, students, and city residents in attendance. The police contingent presented the National Salute.

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta hoisted the national flag at his official residence on the 80th Independence Day, while Delhi ministers, including Ashish Sood, hoisted the flag in his constituency. Manjinder Singh Sirsa, along with Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra, hoisted the national flag at the state BJP headquarters.

The Lieutenant Governor paid tribute to freedom fighters and nation-builders.

He referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day address, highlighting the vision of ‘Shakti Ki Saptdhara ’-seven streams of growth including manufacturing, agriculture, technology, infrastructure, defence, the green and blue economy, and soft power. Sandhu stated these areas are relevant to Delhi and urged residents to contribute to the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047.

The LG outlined the objective of making Delhi a model of excellence, safety, and civic pride. He described his long association with the city and called service to Delhi a responsibility.

He said the administration must work to improve convenience, dignity, and well-being for all residents.

The LG said Delhi’s governance should follow the Prime Minister’s principle of inclusive development. He stressed the importance of coordination among the Union Government, Delhi Government, municipal bodies, neighbouring states, and citizens to address challenges. Key priorities include cleaning the Yamuna, reducing air pollution, housing, healthcare, safety, traffic management, and heritage restoration.

Addressing the city’s youth, the LG said they remain the ultimate drivers. He said the youth are key to Delhi’s future and highlighted the importance of civic responsibility. He urged citizens to maintain cleanliness, protect public spaces, and uphold their Fundamental Duties. He called on all sections of society to support these efforts, stating that caring for weaker sections is a sign of a progressive city- a premier capital of the world, one that reflects a sensitive blend of heritage and modernity in its service delivery, and where every citizen feels safe, valued, and empowered.

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta hoisted the national flag at his official residence on the 80th Independence Day. A ceremonial Guard of Honour was presented at the event, according to a statement from the Assembly secretariat. The Speaker conveyed greetings to citizens and paid tribute to freedom fighters and national heroes for their role in securing India’s independence, the statement said. The chief minister reiterated the commitment to democratic values and national development, stating the resolve to work towards building a prosperous and strong nation, the statement added.

Sood participated in the Tiranga Cyclothon 2026 organised in Janakpuri and cycled alongside the participants. The event commenced from St. Mark’s School, Janakpuri, and concluded at the same venue.

After hoisting the National Flag, Malhotra said that nation felt proud as for First Time VANDE MATRAM was sung at Red Fort.
