17 Delhi Police personnel honoured with service medals on I-Day

Seventeen officers and staff members from the Delhi Police have been honoured with service medals on Independence Day for their outstanding and dedicated work. Among the awards are two President’s Medals for Distinguished Service and 15 Medals for Meritorious Service.

Dinesh Kumar Gupta, IPS, Additional Commissioner of Police, and Sub-Inspector (Executive) Rajesh Kumar will receive the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service.

Gupta, who joined the AGMUT cadre in 2010, has worked in many operational and specialised roles. He has served as Assistant Commissioner of Police in several areas and as Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police in various districts and units, including Railway, IGI Airport, Traffic, Recruitment Cell, and Shahdara District. He also tackled policing challenges in Arunachal Pradesh.

As Additional Commissioner of Police for Traffic, he managed traffic during large public events, religious gatherings, Parliamentary sessions, and national ceremonies. He has also received the Medal for Meritorious Service.

Rajesh Kumar started his career with Delhi Police as a Constable in 1988 and had nearly 40 years of service by 2018. He played a key role in setting up and running the Quarter Allotment Cell website from 2010, which made government accommodation processes more transparent and efficient. He also worked as the nodal officer for the Directorate of Estates and handled important administrative tasks in Rohini District. He was awarded the Medal for Meritorious Service in 2005.

The 15 recipients of the Medal for Meritorious Service include senior officers, inspectors, and staff who have made important contributions to crime prevention, investigations, digitisation, law and order, and public service.

Surender Kumar, IPS and Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), is recognised for his leadership in policing, immigration, and internal security. He introduced the e-Beat Book within the Delhi Police. He led several technology projects, including e-Beat Book 2.0, e-FRRO, cyber-fraud e-FIR integration, and improvements to criminal databases. He also played a major role in extradition operations and in implementing new criminal laws and administrative services.

Nupur Prasad, IPS and Joint CP (EOW), is recognised for her leadership in policing, investigation, and public-focused initiatives. As the first DCP of Shahdara, she established the district’s policing framework and took action against drug networks and organised crime. Her assignments have included the Central Bureau of Investigation, Arunachal Pradesh, and West Bengal. She has advanced women’s self-defence, youth development, cyber safety, and drug de-addiction programs.

Other awardees include Inspector Rakesh Kumar Bhatt, who is recognised for his work in scientific investigation and immigration; Inspector Tara Dutt, for excellent administrative and stenographic service; and Assistant Sub-Inspector Kailash Chand, who has served with dedication for 36 years.

Those recognised for their work in operations and investigations include Woman Assistant Sub-Inspector Anjana Kumari, who took part in actions against terrorists, gangsters, and other serious criminals; ASI Satish Patil, who helped with major criminal investigations and the arrest of a wanted terrorist; and ASI Anand Ballabh, known for solving difficult cases and working well with the public.

The list also features ASI Pradeep Kumar Sharma, W/ASI Bindu, W/ASI Dinesh Kumari, W/HC Lalita, W/HC Sharmila, W/HC Pushpa Rani, and Head Constable Vijay Singh. They are recognised for their efforts in law and order, public service, administration, digital work, record-keeping, and security.
