KSEB averts Keralam power cuts through outside purchases

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 14 (PTI) Keralam escaped power cuts on Sunday night as the KSEB made alternative arrangements to procure electricity from other states, officials said on Monday.

According to Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), the state procured 100 MW through Gridco Odisha and another 15 MW from ACBIL to meet the increased demand.

Under a power swap agreement with Madhya Pradesh, another 100 MW was available to Keralam between 9.15 pm and midnight.

In addition, the required power was procured through the Power Exchange, officials said.

KSEB officials said the total electricity consumption in the state on Sunday was 89.08 million units, while peak demand stood at 4,983 MW.

Power generation within Keralam was 18.40 million units, while 70.68 million units were procured from outside the state, they said.

The average water level in the state's power-generating dams is currently 62.34 per cent, compared with 78.96 per cent during the corresponding period in 2025, officials said.
