Khammam residents in Telangana protest proposed house demolitions for road widening

Tension prevailed in the Three Town area of Khammam city in Telangana on Wednesday, September 16, as residents protested the proposed demolition of their houses for a road-widening project.
According to residents, officials had marked the affected houses and served notices about a week ago. Residents of Srinivas Nagar staged a protest at the Church Compound area in the evening, which continued late into the night.
A police contingent was deployed following the protest, with ACP (Town) A.V. Ramana Murthy reaching the spot to monitor the situation. Protesters raised slogans against the Congress government.
The demonstrators said they would not call off the protest until district Collector Divakara and local MLA and Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao visited the site and gave a clear assurance about the safety of their homes.
