Two cops arrested in Rs 5 lakh bribery case in Hyderabad's Keesara

Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials arrested two policemen from Keesara police station on Wednesday night, September 16, after catching sub-inspector Gnanender Reddy red-handed while accepting a Rs 5 lakh bribe from a man linked to a PDS rice smuggling case.

According to the ACB, Reddy had allegedly demanded money from the complainant, offering to help him in the case and shield him from further harassment at the police station. He was caught sitting in a car receiving the cash.

The bribe demand had reportedly started at Rs 8 lakh before being negotiated down to Rs 6 lakh. The complainant eventually arranged Rs 5 lakh, and it was during this handover that the ACB moved in and trapped him.

Keesara Inspector Arkepally Anjaneyulu was also booked in the case for his alleged role in the bribe demand, even though he was not present at the actual handover. Both officers have since been arrested.

Following the arrests, ACB teams searched the Keesara police station and other related premises as part of the ongoing investigation, which continues.
