Kerala Police arrest 13,002 under anti-narcotics drive Operation Toofan

Kerala Police have arrested 13,002 people and registered 12,050 cases so far under “Operation Toofan”, the anti-narcotics campaign launched by the Home Department, officials said on Tuesday.
Police arrested 39 people in 37 cases on Monday, taking the total number of arrests under the operation to 13,002.
As part of the drive, police have so far seized 26,057.374 grams of MDMA and 1,634.780 kg of ganja.
Of the cases registered on Monday, 15 were related to possession of small quantities of narcotic substances, while one case each involved a medium quantity and a commercial quantity, police said.
Besides these, 20 cases were registered under various provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and 34 cases under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA).
Police recovered 153.379 grams of MDMA and 5.346 kg of ganja from those arrested in the cases registered on Monday.
Under Operation Toofan, police also held 42 awareness classes across the state on Monday. Officials said 10,852 awareness classes and 877 counselling sessions have been conducted so far.
School and college protection groups have also organised 7,718 awareness programmes as part of the campaign.
Police have appealed to the public to provide information about drug trafficking through dedicated telephone and WhatsApp numbers. They assured that the identities of those sharing information would be kept confidential. (with inputs from PTI)
