Jharkhand man's family pleas help from centre as he gets stuck in Nepal's flash-flood

A 41-year-old man from Jharkhand is stranded in flood-hit Nepal, with his family appealing to the Centre and state authorities to help trace and rescue him, officials said on Thursday.

Ramprasad Ghosh, a resident of Hyder Ali Road in Ranchi, had travelled to Nepal about two months ago for work at the Upper Trishuli Hydropower Project in Rasuwa, one of the areas badly affected by the flash floods. He has been working there for around six months as an administrator at the plant.

According to his family, their last conversation with Ghosh took place on Tuesday through a social media call. His 75-year-old father, Ranjit Kumar Ghosh, said the family tried repeatedly to contact him after learning about the floods, but he has remained unreachable.

His sister-in-law, Ditya Ghosh, said the family was particularly worried because the hydropower project is located in the Rasuwa area at the centre of the disaster. She said reports indicated that a large number of people were trapped at the project site and that rescue efforts were being hampered by difficult conditions, including heavy mud and slush and the inability of helicopters to land.

Ramprasad is unmarried and is among around 200 workers from different parts of India employed at the project, his family said. He had returned to Nepal after spending about 10 days at home on leave two months ago.

The family has appealed to both the Jharkhand and central governments to intervene and ensure his safe rescue. Shikha Lakra, team leader at Jharkhand's state migrant control room, said the authorities had written to the Indian Embassy and shared Ghosh's details in an effort to locate him.

Separately, the Jharkhand government has sought information from Indian consular authorities in Nepal about residents of the state who may have been rescued, remain stranded or are missing. The state has also approached the Protector of Emigrants and the Consulate General of Nepal in Kolkata for details. Officials said they had not received a response at the time of the latest update.

The search for Ghosh comes as Nepal continues to deal with the aftermath of devastating floods and landslides. Authorities are racing to trace hundreds of people still unaccounted for, including Indian nationals, while rescue and relief operations continue in several affected areas.
