Jharkhand CID arrests two more in cases of alleged recruitment exam irregularities

The Jharkhand CID has arrested two more people over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations in the state, an official said on Tuesday.

One of those arrested is Dilip Kumar Paswan, 41, from Jamui district in Bihar. He was taken into custody in connection with alleged malpractice in the 2023 JSSC Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination.

According to the official, Paswan allegedly helped several candidates appearing for the examination by providing them unfair advantages.

His arrest has taken the total number of people apprehended by the CID in connection with the alleged JSSC-CGL irregularities to 13, the official said.

In a separate case involving alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), the agency arrested a coaching centre operator in Ranchi.

The accused was identified as Sanjit Kumar, a resident of Ratu Road in the Sukhdeo Nagar police station area of Ranchi.

"Kumar has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. The arrested accused runs Ranchi-based Shivangan Coaching and was operating as an agent," the official said.

The CID has now arrested more than 20 people in connection with the JPSC case, including former JPSC chairman L Khiangte. He was arrested on August 10.

The arrests come against the backdrop of protests by job aspirants that began on July 25. The protesters had demanded cancellation of examinations conducted by the JPSC and JSSC, besides seeking a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities.

Following the agitation, the state government announced on August 18 that several recruitment examinations, including the JSSC-CGL-2023, would be cancelled. The aspirants subsequently called off their protest.

The Jharkhand High Court, however, later stayed the government's decision after successful candidates challenged it through a petition.  (with inputs from PTI)
