Jharkhand, Australia explore cooperation in Skill Development, Mining and Startups

Jharkhand is exploring opportunities to strengthen its international partnerships and accelerate development through cooperation with Australia in skill development, technology, mining, startups, sports and tourism. Chief Minister Hemant Soren held a meeting with Bernard Lynch, head of the Australian Consulate-General in Kolkata, in Ranchi on Wednesday to discuss areas of mutual interest and long-term collaboration.

Describing the interaction as a positive and enriching experience, Soren said the meeting had resulted in constructive and forward-looking discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Jharkhand and Australia. He emphasised the potential of such partnerships to support the state’s development objectives and create new opportunities for its people.

Modern technical education and vocational training were identified as important areas of cooperation, particularly with regard to preparing Jharkhand’s youth for employment opportunities in the global market. The discussions focused on the importance of upgrading technical skills, strengthening training systems and developing a workforce equipped to meet changing industrial and technological requirements.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the scope for collaboration in technological advancement and the promotion of startups. Such cooperation, he said, could contribute to innovation, entrepreneurship and the development of new economic opportunities for young people in the state.

Another significant area discussed was the sustainable and modern utilisation of Jharkhand’s abundant mineral resources. The state expressed interest in benefiting from Australian expertise and industrial experience to promote technological improvements and encourage more sustainable approaches to mineral resource management.

Cooperation in sports and tourism was also discussed, with emphasis on improving infrastructure and developing opportunities in both sectors. The meeting further explored the preservation and exchange of the rich indigenous cultures, traditions and traditional knowledge systems of Jharkhand and Australia.

Soren said Jharkhand’s natural resources, human capital and rich tribal heritage provided a strong foundation for building a meaningful partnership with Australia’s advanced technical institutions, expertise and industrial capabilities.

He reiterated the state government’s commitment to taking the dialogue forward and developing a durable and mutually beneficial partnership. The proposed areas of cooperation could provide opportunities for knowledge exchange, skill enhancement, technological innovation and sustainable economic development, while strengthening ties between Jharkhand and Australia.
