CUJ holds workshop on mental health and stress management

The Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ) organised a workshop on “Mental Health Awareness and Stress Management” under the National Service Scheme (NSS), in collaboration with Tele-MANAS services and the Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP), Kanke.
The programme aimed to sensitise students to the importance of mental health, stress management and effective communication. The workshop was organised under the leadership of CUJ Vice-Chancellor and patron Prof Sarang Medhkar, with guidance from NSS coordinator Dr Hrishikesh Mahto. Dr Pragya Shukla, NSS programme officer, coordinated the event.
Experts from Tele-MANAS, Jharkhand, including Jimli Chatterjee, M.Phil (MHP), and Rohini Nirja Tirkey, Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing, interacted with students during the programme.
Chatterjee discussed mental health, stress and emotional challenges commonly faced by students in their daily lives. She stressed the importance of recognising stress, being aware of one’s emotions and seeking appropriate support whenever required. The session saw active participation from students, who raised questions and engaged in discussions.
Tirkey conducted an interactive activity focusing on mental health and communication skills. Through the activity, students gained practical insights into active listening, effective communication and developing mutual understanding.
Around 600 students participated in the workshop. The use of interactive discussions and activities helped create an engaging environment and made the sessions relevant to students.
The programme emphasised that mental health is an integral part of a healthy and balanced life, while awareness, sensitivity and positive communication can play an important role in promoting emotional well-being. The initiative was organised in keeping with the theme, “A Healthier Mind, A Brighter Tomorrow.”
