Indian Army Doctors remove LED Bulb from 9-Month-Old Infant’s lung in rare life-saving surgery

In a rare and highly complex medical intervention, doctors of the Indian Army successfully removed an LED bulb lodged deep inside the lung of a nine-month-old infant, saving the child’s life at the Army Institute of Cardio-Thoracic Sciences in Pune.

Specialists at Indian Army hospital in Pune performed an emergency bronchoscopic procedure after the object was found stuck in the airway of the infant’s left lung. The procedure was described as high-risk due to the danger of airway collapse and potential complications requiring major surgery.

The Army’s Southern Command stated that the LED bulb, along with corrosive wires, was carefully extracted using a highly precise and minimally invasive bronchoscopic technique. Doctors managed to restore normal breathing without any complications.

Officials said the situation was a life-threatening emergency, but the medical team acted with exceptional precision and coordination, preventing what could have been a fatal outcome for the infant.

The Southern Command also shared images of the extracted object and before-and-after scans, highlighting the complexity of the case and the successful intervention by military medical specialists.

The rare procedure has drawn praise from social media users and medical observers, who called the doctors “real-life heroes” for handling such a delicate operation on an infant.
