India win silver in women’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event at Asian Games

India won the silver medal in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event at the Asian Games on Saturday, with Tilottama Sen, Vidarsa Vinod and Ashi Chouksey finishing behind China.

The Indian trio posted a combined score of 1763 to take second place. China won the gold with a Games-record 1773, while Kazakhstan secured bronze with 1754.

The event also produced a mixed result for India in the individual qualification, with Tilottama and Vidarsa progressing to the eight-shooter final while Ashi narrowly missed out.

Tilottama, ranked 107th in the world, finished the qualification in third place with 590 points after competing in the kneeling, prone and standing stages.

Vidarsa, ranked 15th in the world, recovered strongly to finish sixth with 588 points and also booked her place in the final.

Ashi, ranked 18th in the world, finished just outside the qualifying spots with 585. She had been among the leading shooters through the first two stages but could not maintain the position in the standing series.

Ashi and Tilottama had both scored 395 after the kneeling and prone stages. Ashi recorded 25 inner 10s compared with Tilottama’s 23, but Tilottama produced a stronger standing series to finish on 590.

Vidarsa was outside the leading positions for much of the qualification before a late recovery lifted her into sixth place.

The 50m rifle 3 positions event requires shooters to compete in kneeling, prone and standing positions. The qualification scores determine the eight shooters who advance to the individual final.

For India, the team silver adds another medal to its shooting haul at the Asian Games, while Tilottama and Vidarsa will now compete for an individual medal.
