India launches 2028-29 UNSC bid with ‘SHANTI’ Vision: EAM Jaishankar

India has officially launched its campaign for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2028-29 term. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar unveiled the campaign at the UN headquarters in New York, introducing India's "SHANTI" vision, which outlines the country's priorities for global peace, security, and international cooperation.

The SHANTI framework focuses on strengthening peacekeeping operations, promoting maritime security, tackling terrorism and its financing, ensuring responsible use of artificial intelligence, supporting sustainable development, and pushing for reforms in global institutions to better represent developing nations. India also reiterated its commitment to amplifying the voice of the Global South and building consensus on major international challenges.

India has served as a non-permanent member of the UNSC eight times and is seeking another two-year term beginning in 2028. Elections for the Asia-Pacific seat are scheduled to be held in 2027.

Through its campaign, India aims to highlight its long-standing contributions to UN peacekeeping missions, humanitarian efforts, and multilateral diplomacy while reinforcing its commitment to a more inclusive and effective United Nations.
