India Condemns Iran Attack on UAE Oil Port, 3 Indian Nationals Injured in Fujairah Strike

India has strongly condemned Iran’s attack on the Fujairah Petroleum Industries Zone in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which left three Indian nationals injured amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

The Ministry of External Affairs termed the incident “unacceptable” and called for an immediate halt to hostilities, especially those targeting civilian infrastructure.

“The attack on Fujairah that resulted in injury to three Indian nationals is unacceptable. We call for an immediate cessation of such actions,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.

India also reiterated its stand in favour of dialogue and diplomacy, urging all sides to work towards restoring peace and stability in the region.

New Delhi further emphasised the importance of maintaining free and uninterrupted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route, in accordance with international law.

UAE Confirms Missile and Drone Attack

According to UAE authorities, the country’s air defence systems intercepted multiple projectiles, including 15 missiles and four drones launched by Iran. However, one drone struck the Fujairah oil facility, triggering a fire and injuring three Indian workers at the site.

The attack marks a significant escalation, as it is the first such strike on the UAE since a fragile ceasefire came into effect earlier this year.

Additionally, reports indicated that two cargo vessels caught fire off the UAE coast, further raising concerns about maritime safety in the region.

Iran’s Response Remains Ambiguous

Iran has not officially confirmed responsibility for the attack. However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a warning that both the United States and the UAE should avoid being drawn deeper into conflict.

Iranian state media quoted an unnamed official suggesting that the incident was not pre-planned and linked it to ongoing geopolitical tensions involving US military actions in the region.

Rising Tensions Around Strait of Hormuz

The situation comes amid renewed tensions over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil shipments. Recent developments, including US-led efforts to escort vessels through the strait, have heightened the risk of further escalation.

Iran has previously warned against such moves, calling them a violation of the existing ceasefire. The ongoing standoff has already impacted global energy markets and raised concerns among shipping companies and insurers.

India, while condemning the attack, has reiterated its readiness to support efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
