5 Killed, 3 injured as vehicle falls into Gorge and caches fire in Uttarakhand

5 people were killed and 3 others injured after a vehicle fell into a deep gorge and caught fire in the Barakot area of Uttarakhand, officials said. The accident took place when the vehicle reportedly lost control and plunged into the ravine, triggering a massive fire after the impact.
Local police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams rushed to the spot soon after receiving information. Rescue operations were carried out in difficult terrain as the vehicle was engulfed in flames and the gorge made access challenging.
The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were recovered from the crash site after a difficult operation.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the accident. A detailed investigation has been launched to determine whether overspeeding, mechanical failure, or road conditions led to the tragedy.
Frequent road accidents in hilly regions of Uttarakhand, especially involving vehicles plunging into deep gorges, continue to raise concerns over road safety and infrastructure in the state.
