IMD predicts relief from heatwave across North India, Thunderstorms likely over next 3 days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted gradual relief from the ongoing heatwave conditions across several parts of North India over the next three days, with thunderstorms, rainfall and strong winds expected in many regions.
According to the weather department, a western disturbance and moisture incursion from the Arabian Sea are likely to bring a change in weather conditions across northwest and central India.
The IMD said thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds and light to moderate rainfall are expected over parts of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh during the coming days.
Dust storms and strong surface winds reaching speeds of 40 to 60 kmph are also likely in isolated areas, particularly over Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi-NCR.
The weather agency noted that maximum temperatures are expected to fall gradually by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius across many northern states, providing respite from the intense heatwave conditions prevailing over the past week.
Several areas in northwest India have recorded temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius in recent days, prompting authorities to issue heatwave advisories and urge people to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.
The IMD further advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms and strong winds, as sudden weather activity may affect visibility and disrupt traffic and outdoor activities.
Officials said isolated heavy rainfall activity may also occur in some regions, while heatwave conditions are expected to reduce significantly by the weekend.
