13-Year-old dies, elderly woman injured in Delhi blaze

A 13-year-old boy died and an elderly woman suffered severe burn injuries after a fire broke out at a house in west Delhi’s Vishnu Garden area early Wednesday, officials said.
According to the Delhi Fire Services, the blaze is believed to have started in an electric scooter kept inside the house and quickly spread to domestic items stored on the ground floor. The fire engulfed the premises before rescue teams could reach the spot.
The injured, including 65-year-old Swamjeet Kaur who suffered around 35% burn injuries, were rushed to Guru Gobind Hospital by locals and PCR personnel. The minor boy, who was sleeping on the ground floor with his uncle, was declared brought dead at the hospital.
Police said a PCR call was received at Khyala police station around 2:43 am, after which fire tenders were rushed to the location. Family members were asleep on different floors when the blaze broke out.
Officials suspect a possible short circuit may have triggered the fire, though a detailed investigation is underway to confirm the exact cause.
In a separate incident in north Delhi’s Burari area, Delhi Police rescued 13 people, including 11 visually impaired students, after a fire broke out in a building. Police said officers used quick action to evacuate trapped residents from smoke-filled floors, preventing further casualties.
Authorities are continuing to investigate both incidents to determine safety lapses and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
