Renowned Urdu poet Bashir Badr dies at 91

Eminent Urdu poet Bashir Badr passed away at the age of 91 in Bhopal after a prolonged illness, family members confirmed.

According to his son Syed Badr, the poet breathed his last around 12:15–12:30 pm. He described the loss as deeply personal and said it was difficult to express the impact Bashir Badr had on people through his poetry and presence.

“Today is the day when he is no longer with us. I request everyone to pray for him,” he said.

He further informed that the funeral rites will be held the same day after Maghrib prayers at Kadim Masjid, after which Bashir Badr will be laid to rest at Bada Bagh graveyard.

Bashir Badr was widely regarded as one of the most prominent voices in modern Urdu poetry, known for his couplets that blended simplicity with emotional depth. His work has been widely recited and cherished across generations.
