Identify and separate ‘dimagi Naxals’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday that Maoist extremism is ending in the country. He also urged people to identify and separate the “dimagi Naxals.” In his speech on the 80th Independence Day, the prime minister said that Naxalism and Maoism have ruined the futures of many young people.

“For forty years, large regions and their people lived under the threat of guns.” “More than 3,500 security personnel died protecting people. This number is higher than those who die in war,” he said.

“When we came to power in 2014, we promised to rid the country of Naxals. I am glad Maoist violence is almost over,” he said. He added that many areas are now free of Naxalites and are developing.

Modi added, “For years, people with a Naxal mindset held positions of influence. They served as advisors on Government committees, and their Maoist ideas affected policies.”

“We have removed armed Naxals from the forests, but ‘dimagi Naxals’ (intellectual Naxals) are still trying to cause violence and unrest. They want to lead society in the wrong direction,” he said.

“These ‘dimagi Naxals’ must be identified and isolated, and we need to connect young people with the mainstream,” he added.
