Six held in Hyderabad for allegedly posing as doctors and treating patients without licences

Six people were apprehended in Hyderabad for allegedly posing as qualified doctors despite lacking valid medical qualifications and treating patients without authorisation, police said on Tuesday, August 25.

Acting on credible information, police teams conducted searches at several locations in the Jubilee Hills Zone on Monday and detained the six accused.

According to police, the accused were running pharmacies and unregistered clinics without the required licences or registrations while falsely presenting themselves as medical practitioners.

They allegedly treated patients by administering IV fluids and injections and, in some cases, even performing surgical suturing, DCP (Task Force) Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath said in a release.

Police said the alleged activities posed a serious risk to patients' health and safety and allowed the accused to make illegal financial gains.

The accused reportedly charged patients between Rs 50 and Rs 200 as consultation fees and attended to around 10 to 50 patients a day. They also allegedly prescribed medicines stocked at their pharmacies.

During the searches, police seized surgical needles, injections, syringes, saline bottles, children's tonics and various medicines and other medical supplies.

Further investigation is underway, police said.
