Hoshiarpur property dispute turns deadly as man is allegedly killed by nephew; Punjab

A man was allegedly hacked to death by his nephew following a property dispute in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district, police said on Monday. The accused, identified as Sarabjit Singh, is absconding and has been booked on murder charges.

The incident took place around 7.30 pm on Sunday in Hajipur. Police said the victim, Mahinder Singh, was returning home on his scooter with a bag of flour when Sarabjit allegedly intercepted him near his residence.

The accused reportedly attacked Mahinder with a sickle-like sharp-edged weapon, repeatedly striking him on the neck, head, arms and other parts of his body. Hearing the commotion, family members raised an alarm, prompting neighbours to gather at the scene. Sarabjit allegedly fled with the weapon after seeing the crowd.

Mahinder, who suffered severe bleeding, was taken to the Civil Hospital in Hajipur, where doctors declared him dead.

Preliminary police investigation has indicated that the victim and the accused were related and had an ongoing dispute over property. A murder case has been registered at Hajipur police station, and police teams are conducting searches to locate and arrest the accused.
