Minister Surekha out of CM Revanth's cabinet; Guv Shukla approves

Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Thursday approved Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s decision to drop Konda Surekha from the state Council of Ministers with immediate effect.

“On the advice of the Chief Minister of Telangana, the Governor of Telangana has dropped Konda Surekha, Minister from the Council of Ministers with immediate effect,” the Lok Bhavan Press Communique said.

Earlier in the day, Revanth Reddy decided to remove Surekha from his Cabinet amid a political row over remarks made by her daughter Konda Sushmitha against the chief minister and other Congress leaders.

The Governor’s approval formally clears Surekha’s removal from the Telangana Cabinet.

Surekha’s exit comes amid a widening rift within the Telangana Congress. Her daughter’s remarks had triggered a political controversy, following which the party’s disciplinary mechanism issued a notice to the former minister.

The decision marks the first Cabinet-level removal from the Revanth Reddy government since the Congress came to power in Telangana in December 2023.
