Emergency evacuation conducted on IndiGo flight at Bengaluru airport

A major mishap was averted at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, after passengers onboard an IndiGo flight were evacuated following reports of smoke inside the aircraft during taxiing on Tuesday.
According to the airline, IndiGo flight 6E 6017 was scheduled to operate from Bengaluru to Chennai on 26 May 2026. The aircraft was taxiing toward the runway for departure when smoke was noticed inside the plane. Acting swiftly in the interest of passenger safety, the crew initiated an emergency evacuation procedure and informed all relevant airport and safety authorities.
The airline confirmed that all passengers and crew members were evacuated safely and no injuries were reported during the incident.
Travelers were escorted back to the terminal, where IndiGo staff provided assistance and ensured their well-being. In an official statement, the airline said, “On 26 May 2026, while IndiGo flight 6E 6017 from Bengaluru to Chennai was taxing out to runway for departure, smoke was noticed in the aircraft. In the interest of safety, an immediate evacuation was carried out and all the relevant authorities were informed.”
The airline further stated that an alternate aircraft had been arranged to operate the flight and that refreshments were being served to passengers to ease the delay caused by the incident. Airport authorities and technical teams are expected to inspect the aircraft to determine the source of the smoke.
While the exact cause has not yet been disclosed, the timely response by the crew helped prevent any injuries or escalation of the situation. IndiGo reiterated that the safety and security of its passengers and crew remain its highest priority.
