Electronics PLI beneficiaries get Rs 19,091 crore incentives

Large-scale electronics manufacturing PLI beneficiaries have received the highest incentives of Rs 19,090.98 crore under the scheme till June this year, while the sector has attracted investments of Rs 20,580.20 crore.

The government launched the PLI schemes in 2020 for 14 sectors, including electronics and pharmaceuticals, with an approved outlay of Rs 1.91 lakh crore, to enhance manufacturing capabilities, attract investment, promote exports, generate employment, and reduce import dependence.

The Government provides fiscal incentives to the eligible PLI beneficiary firms on incremental sales (over base year). The Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for large-scale electronics manufacturing (LSEM) was started in 2020 with an aim to boost domestic manufacturing of mobile phones in the country.

The scheme approved as many as 32 beneficiary companies. India has emerged as the second-largest mobile manufacturer in the world, and smartphones have emerged as one of India’s top exported commodities.

The tenure of this scheme was extended from five years (2020-25) by one year till 2025-26. Smartphone exports from the country have increased to about $30 billion in 2025-26 from $5.5 billion in 2021-22.

In total, the government has disbursed Rs 36,754 crore to beneficiary companies under the schemes since the launch in 2020 till June 30 this year, according to the DPIIT data.

While Rs 6,662 crore was disbursed to the pharma sector, Rs 3,271.440 crore and Rs 3,174.15 crore were released to beneficiary firms in the food products and auto and auto components segments, respectively, as of June this year, the data showed.
