Dowry death case filed after 25-year-old woman dies in West Delhi

A 25-year-old woman died after allegedly falling from a building in West Delhi’s Dasghara Village area, following which the police registered a dowry death case against her husband and his two brothers, officials said on Wednesday. According to the police, a PCR call was received on May 18 regarding a woman who had fallen from a building near Holi Chowk in Dasghara Village, under the jurisdiction of the Inderpuri police station.

A police team rushed to the spot and shifted the injured woman to a hospital, where doctors declared her “brought dead”.

The deceased was identified as a 25-year-old woman and the wife of Raju Singh.

Police sources said both the woman’s family and her marital family were from lower-middle-class backgrounds. As the marriage had taken place within seven years, legal proceedings related to dowry death were initiated, and the matter was reported to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Karol Bagh.

Police sources also mentioned that the investigation revealed harassment about dowry by the accused. Officials said the SDM recorded statements of the victim’s family members. At the same time, the Crime Team and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team from Rohini inspected the spot and collected evidence.

Based on the inquiry, statements and the post-mortem examination conducted on Tuesday, the police registered FIR under Sections 80 (Dowry Death) and 3(5) (Common Intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the woman’s husband, Raju Singh, and his two brothers. Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
