Delhi traffic restrictions, diversions announced for BRICS Summit VIP movement

The Delhi Traffic Police has announced traffic restrictions and diversions from 2 pm to 8:30 pm on Friday in view of VIP and VVIP movements linked to the BRICS Summit 2026. Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and allow additional travel time.

The BRICS Summit will be held at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan from September 12 to 13. According to a public traffic advisory issued by the Delhi Traffic Police, restrictions will be imposed on more than 35 roads, while traffic diversions will be put in place at 22 locations during VIP and VVIP movements.

The affected roads include Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Tees January Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Subramania Bharti Marg, Mathura Road, Moti Lal Nehru Marg, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg, Africa Avenue Road, Satya Marg, Shanti Path, Janpath, Ashoka Road, Barakhamba Road, Tolstoy Marg, Rajendra Singh Flyover, Niti Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Kemal Ataturk Marg, APJ Abdul Kalam Road, Press Enclave Road, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, Josef Broz Tito Marg and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg.

Traffic heading towards Mathura Road and Tilak Marg from Dr Dinesh Nandini Dalmia Chowk will not be allowed. Vehicles will instead be diverted towards BSZ Marg and IP Marg or Delhi Gate.

Similar diversions will be implemented at Ram Charan Aggarwal Chowk, Mir Dard Chowk and several other points across central Delhi.

Restrictions will also be in place on routes around Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Janpath, Connaught Place, Patel Chowk, the RML Hospital roundabout, Vande Mataram Marg, Dhaula Kuan, Moti Bagh, Africa Avenue, Lodhi Road, Mathura Road and the Ring Road.

The traffic police has advised motorists travelling to airports, railway stations and ISBTs to leave early and factor in additional travel time. Commuters have also been encouraged to use public transport wherever possible.

The Metro will continue to operate at all stations. The traffic police has particularly advised passengers travelling to the airport to use the Metro during the advisory period.

Alternative routes have been provided for passengers travelling to New Delhi, Old Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations. Commuters travelling to the airport from Gurugram, Dwarka and different parts of Delhi have also been advised to use specified Metro corridors and alternative road routes.

The advisory said emergency and medical vehicles would continue to receive obstruction-free passage. Essential services and utilities will also be allowed uninterrupted access.

The traffic police said non-destined commercial vehicles would not be allowed to enter Delhi. Motorists have also been advised against parking on the roadside within 200 metres of roads under traffic control.
