Delhi to launch Rs 8,000 crore Yamuna projects under Sewa Sankalp
The Delhi Government will inaugurate and lay foundation stones of projects worth Rs 8,000 crore aimed at Yamuna cleaning and launch an official platform for organ donation under ‘Sewa Sankalp Abhiyan’, marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public service, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Monday.
Addressing a press conference with Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra, she said that projects and schemes worth Rs 13,800 crore will be either inaugurated or their foundation stones will be laid during the month-long campaign that will commence from Prime Minister Modi’s birthday on September 17 and conclude on October 17, she said.
The Delhi Government will hold a mega blood donation camp on September 17, in which 2,500 units of blood will be collected, she said.
“The Yamuna is a matter of faith for us. Cleaning the Yamuna is not a one-day project,” she said while announcing the initiatives planned under the campaign.
The chief minister said the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) project worth Rs 8,000 crore will be aimed at Yamuna rejuvenation through improvement in water and infrastructure in the city. The Government will also take up projects across several other departments, which will be inaugurated or their foundation stones will be laid during the campaign.
These include projects worth Rs 265 crore by the Irrigation and Flood Control department, Rs 2,800 crore by the PWD and over Rs 1,500 crore by the Power department, she said.
The chief minister said projects worth a total of Rs 13,800 crore will be inaugurated during the month-long campaign by various departments. She said PM Modi’s 25 years of public service without any break is an inspiration and pride for everyone and pointed out that Delhi successfully hosted the BRICS summit thanks to infrastructure works worth Rs 1.25 lakh crore in the city, undertaken during 12 years of his tenure.
The Delhi Government will also hold health checkup camps across the city for the elderly and workers. An official organ donation platform on the lines of the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) will be inaugurated during the Sewa Sankalp Abhiyan. The State Organ and Tissue Transplantation Organisation (SOTTO) will promote organ donation, she said.
Tree plantation and ‘Mere Sapnon Ka Bharat’ competitions will be part of the programmes. Over 5,000 schools and academic institutions will participate in it and express their idea of a developed India through paintings, reels, speeches and other media, she said. Other programmes under ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ will include felicitation of Anganwadi and ASHA workers, camps for registration of people under various Delhi Government and Central Government schemes.
In the ‘Ashirvad Ka Diya’ programme, beneficiaries of government schemes will light a lamp at their houses seeking blessings for Prime Minister Modi, who has served people for the past 25 years, she said.
The Chief Minister said that, during Prime Minister Ji’s tenure, the total value of infrastructure-related projects approved, under way and proposed for Delhi stood at Rs 12.25 lakh crore. She said the Central Government’s contribution to important projects such as Jewar Airport, the signal-free corridor at Dhaula Kuan, the Regional Rapid Transit System, the expansion of the Delhi Metro and several other initiatives had been significant. Modern venues such as Yashobhoomi and Bharat Mandapam had enabled Delhi to host international-level events. The successful hosting of the recently held 18th BRICS Summit also reflected the capacity of this modern infrastructure, she added.
Malhotra said that the Delhi BJP will organise programmes across the city under the campaign. He said under the Modi Government, schemes stuck up for years have now been implemented, and the country is progressing with increased exports and better rural road connectivity.
