Class 12 student dies by suicide in Vaishali, classmate booked

A 17-year-old Class 12 student died allegedly by suicide in Vaishali here on August 24 after being harassed and threatened by a classmate, according to her family, prompting police to register an FIR against the classmate, his parents and brother.
The girl was a student at a private school in Delhi’s Anand Vihar area, police said on Monday.
ACP Suryabali Maurya said police were informed on August 24 that a student had allegedly died by suicide in Vaishali under the Kaushambi police station area. Her family took her to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead, he said.
No suicide note was found at the time of the incident, police said.
The family did not initially file a complaint. Later, after examining the girl’s mobile phone and WhatsApp chats, they alleged that a classmate from her school had been harassing and threatening her, leaving her mentally distressed and prompting her to take the extreme step.
On September 12, the girl’s family submitted a complaint at Kaushambi police station, holding the classmate, his parents and brother responsible for her suicide, Maurya said.
Based on the complaint, police registered an FIR under relevant sections and launched an investigation, he said. The girl’s mobile phone and WhatsApp chats are being examined as part of the probe, while police are also contacting the school, the ACP said.
Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, he said.
