Hydrogen-Powered Shuttle Bus service launched at Delhi Central Vista

A hydrogen-powered shuttle bus service was launched in Delhi’s Central Vista area on Friday, marking a significant step towards clean energy-based public transport in the national capital.
The initiative was launched by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Two hydrogen-powered buses have been introduced for passenger services from the Central Secretariat Metro station, with the ceremonial launch held at around 8:30 am.
Officials said the keys of the buses were handed over by Indian Oil Corporation Director (Refinery) Arvind Kumar to DMRC Director (Operations and Services) Dr Amit Kumar Jain in the presence of senior officials from DMRC and Indian Oil Corporation.
The shuttle service will operate on weekdays from Monday to Friday, excluding gazetted holidays, during peak hours between 8:30 am and 12:30 pm, and again from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
Two buses will run on circular routes in clockwise and anti-clockwise directions, covering key government landmarks including Kartavya Bhawan, Vigyan Bhawan, Nirman Bhawan, Akbar Road, Baroda House, National Stadium, National Gallery of Modern Art, India Gate, and Seva Teerth metro station.
Passengers can pay fares through NCMC cards, UPI, and cash, with ticket prices set at Rs 10 and Rs 15 depending on distance.
The DMRC said the initiative is aimed at promoting green hydrogen as a clean fuel alternative and encouraging environmentally sustainable urban transport solutions.
The launch comes shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to reduce dependence on petrol and diesel vehicles and adopt cleaner and more efficient modes of transport amid global energy concerns.
