Delhi Weather: IMD forecasts rain, thunderstorms and lightning across capital today

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across Delhi, offering residents relief from the recent spell of intense heat and humidity.

According to the IMD, the national capital is likely to witness a generally cloudy sky with intermittent showers through the day. Thunderstorms and lightning are expected in several parts of the city, while gusty winds could temporarily disrupt traffic and outdoor activities.

The weather department has advised residents to exercise caution during thunderstorms. People have been urged to avoid taking shelter under trees, stay away from electric poles and waterlogged areas, and secure loose outdoor objects that could be blown away by strong winds.

The fresh spell of rain is expected to bring down temperatures after Delhi experienced scorching heat over the past few days. The change in weather is linked to the continued advancement of the southwest monsoon and favourable atmospheric conditions over north India.

The IMD has also predicted similar weather conditions in parts of the National Capital Region (NCR), with occasional rain and thunderstorms likely over the next few days as monsoon activity strengthens. Authorities have advised commuters to remain alert for possible traffic congestion and localized waterlogging during periods of heavy rainfall.
