Delhi High Court Judge recuses from hearing Tahir Hussain Bail Plea in 2020 Riots UAPA case

The Delhi High Court on Monday witnessed a procedural development in the ongoing 2020 northeast Delhi riots case, as a judge recused from hearing the bail plea of former AAP councillor Tahir Hussain in a matter registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The bail application, which is part of the larger conspiracy case linked to the 2020 riots, could not be heard after the judge opted to step aside from the proceedings. No specific reason for the recusal was immediately disclosed.

Tahir Hussain remains in judicial custody and is facing multiple charges in connection with the communal violence that erupted in northeast Delhi in February 2020. The case is being investigated under stringent provisions of the UAPA, along with other criminal sections.

Hussain has been seeking bail on various grounds, while the prosecution has consistently opposed his release, citing the seriousness of the allegations and the broader conspiracy angle in the case.

The matter is now expected to be listed before another bench of the Delhi High Court for further hearing. The case continues to be part of a series of ongoing legal proceedings arising from the 2020 riots, in which several accused are still facing trial and bail applications under judicial consideration.
