Delhi Court rejects bail plea of cook arrested in Malviya Nagar fire tragedy case

A Delhi court has rejected the bail application of a cook arrested in connection with the deadly Malviya Nagar fire tragedy that claimed multiple lives and left several others injured.
The accused, identified as Keshav Negi, was arrested by Delhi Police during the ongoing investigation into the fire incident at a guest accommodation facility in the Hauz Rani area of Malviya Nagar. Investigators have alleged that his actions during the emergency may have contributed to the severity of the tragedy.
According to police, the cook allegedly switched off the building’s main power supply during the blaze, a move that investigators believe may have hampered evacuation efforts and trapped occupants inside the premises. The allegation forms a key part of the case being examined by authorities.
The court, after hearing arguments from both sides, declined to grant bail to the accused, observing the seriousness of the allegations and the ongoing nature of the investigation. The matter is linked to one of the deadliest fire incidents reported in the national capital this year.
Police have been reconstructing the sequence of events and have taken the accused to the site as part of their investigation. Authorities are also examining possible violations of fire safety norms and the role of other individuals associated with the establishment.
The fire, which broke out at a lodging facility in Malviya Nagar, resulted in significant casualties and prompted scrutiny of safety compliance measures in hospitality establishments across the city. Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
