At least 8 workers killed, several injured in molten steel spill accident at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant

At least eight workers were killed and several others injured after a large quantity of molten steel spilled at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant in Andhra Pradesh on Monday, triggering one of the deadliest industrial accidents in the facility in recent years.
The accident occurred at the SMS-2 and STC-3 heat facility of the steel plant when molten steel reportedly spilled onto workers during operations. The intense heat and sudden nature of the incident resulted in multiple fatalities and serious injuries.
Emergency response teams and plant authorities rushed to the site immediately after the mishap. Injured workers were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment, while rescue and relief operations were carried out within the facility.
Officials have confirmed that an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary details regarding the circumstances leading to the molten steel spill have not yet been officially released.
The incident has once again raised concerns about industrial safety standards in heavy manufacturing and steel production units. The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, operated by Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, is one of India’s major integrated steel manufacturing facilities.
Authorities are expected to conduct a detailed safety audit and review operational protocols following the tragedy. Further information regarding the identities of the victims and the condition of the injured is awaited.
