Cuba withdraws delegation from UN session after Trump calls country a ‘failed’ state

Cuba withdrew its delegation from a UN session after US President Donald Trump described the country as a “failed” state.

Cuban Foreign Affairs Minister Bruno Rodriguez later rejected what he called “falsehoods” and “slanders” against the country.

“The US government is unable to accept that Cuba is, and has the right to be, a fully independent and sovereign country,” Rodriguez wrote on X on Tuesday.

He said the economic blockade, including what he described as an “energy siege”, threatened Cuba and other countries.

“The economic blockade, including the energy siege, only threatens Cuba and the rest of the nations. It is an act of genocide and collective punishment. We are a country of peace and we deserve peace,” Rodriguez said.  (with inputs from Associated Press)
