CM Rekha lays foundation stone for new oxygen park in Burari

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday laid the foundation stone for a new oxygen park in Mukhmelpur village of Burari, announcing a major green development project aimed at improving environmental conditions and public recreational facilities in outer Delhi.

The three-acre park will be developed with modern amenities, walking tracks, landscaped green spaces, and hundreds of trees. The Delhi government has allocated Rs 1 crore for the project through the Forest Department, while another Rs 1 crore will be provided from the Chief Minister’s MLA discretionary fund.

Addressing residents during the foundation stone ceremony, the Chief Minister said the proposed park would serve not only as a green space but also as a centre for healthier and more active community life. She added that the government plans to develop more oxygen parks across Delhi in the coming years.

The Chief Minister said environmental protection and better quality of life remain key priorities for the government, along with infrastructure development. She stated that increasing urbanisation and rising population have increased the need for green public spaces where residents can relax, exercise, and reconnect with nature.

According to officials, the oxygen park will include walking and jogging tracks, decorative energy-efficient lighting, seating huts, landscaped lawns, and a pond. Various shade-giving trees and plants will also be planted across the park premises to improve greenery and air quality in the area.

The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that the project is completed with high standards and equipped with modern facilities so that it becomes one of Delhi’s finest parks. She said the park would benefit residents not only from Mukhmelpur but also from nearby areas, including Jindpur, Bakhtawarpur, Hiranki, and surrounding villages. Officials said the park is expected to become a public space for exercise, yoga, morning walks, and recreational activities for people of all age groups, including children, women, and senior citizens.

The Chief Minister said the Delhi government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi are jointly working to create new green spaces and upgrade existing parks throughout the Capital. She added that such projects would help reduce stress, improve public health, and encourage healthier lifestyles among residents.

Highlighting the government’s environmental initiatives, the Chief Minister said Delhi has set a target of planting more than 70 lakh trees, shrubs, and hedges this year.

She expressed confidence that plantation drives and oxygen parks would contribute significantly towards making Delhi greener and more environmentally sustainable.

According to the Chief Minister, projects worth Rs 20 crore have already been approved for the Burari Assembly constituency following recommendations from local representatives and the area’s Member of Parliament. These projects include sewer lines, drinking water pipelines, and measures aimed at resolving long-standing water supply problems. The Chief Minister further said that projects worth nearly Rs 10,000 crore have been launched in villages and outer Delhi areas, covering sectors such as roads, drainage, transport, education, and healthcare infrastructure.

The Chief Minister said the upgraded facility would create employment opportunities for local youth. North East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari, MCD Mayor Pravesh Wahi, and several local residents attended the event.
